Speaking of, tethering was a fairly simple exercise since it was already jailbroken; I just installed Cydia's iPhoneModem and then (counterintuitively) created a network on my MacBook (code name: "holla") that I chose from my iPhone. Also installed: the Shazam music recognition app for recognizing radio songs, Pandora Radio for when the country music gets to me, and of course Yelp and Urbanspoon for all my gustatory needs.
If anyone can think of any other useful apps for the open road, please let me know!
