Getting there

For a couple of people who pride themselves on not having that much stuff, getting rid of/packing up everything has been a much bigger task than we expected. Notes:

  • Craigslist buyers are still weird, undependable, and yet sometimes surprisingly wonderful. Steve and I could barely contain our clucking when a sweet little transfer student wobbled off on Snowflake the Disagreeable Bicycle. "They grow up so fast," I sighed.
  • Were you thinking about buying something you don't need today? Consider how much fun it will be to have to move it - and a hundred of its tiny, useless brethren - and reconsider.
  • For about $20, you can mail bulky items like comforters and winter coats. Luckily, we have someone on our receiving end, although you can ship things for self-pickup to post offices.
  • We did a dry run of packing Spiff up this morning, and while Readymade bins are great for containing large amounts of stuff neatly and handily, the Prius is a bulbous, oddly shaped beast inside and maleable items work best. The lightning round tomorrow night will be instructive, to say the least; making room for the vacuum cleaner may mean a last minute frenzy of squirreling away sweaters and tshirts into odd corners.
