Take the first possible option, whether it's direct or a transfer; you never know when the system will break down.
Don't sit next to anyone who looks messy, figuratively or literally; that stuff can rub off on you.
Always face forward.
They're called personal hygiene and personal affairs for a reason; if you should be doing it in the bathroom or the bedroom, you shouldn't be doing in front of strangers.
Stand up for the elderly, the pregnant, and the disadvantaged. If you're feeling generous, women in high heels and nurses at the end of the day.
Handle your business; your inability to hang on is no excuse for knocking others over.
You only get one seat; if you have that much stuff, you need to stand or find another way to get where you're going.
Wash yourself and your clothes regularly.
Sometimes there will be delays and problems down the line; recognize there is nothing you can do about them and comport yourself accordingly.
Stand on the right, walk on the left.

In which everyone inexplicably stands ten feet back from the black loading strip but passive-aggressively shifts their weight when anyone attempts to create a proper line; my passion for silently shaming people into good public behavior was no match for this hardened crew. Luckily, it found an outlet in Businessman With Backpack On Other Seat - no one has ever resisted my "I will stand directly in front of you and beam cluelessly until you move your crap" wiles!

A first in two years of BART ridership! I was hoping it would blaze by at warp speed but it just sort of piddled through the station, sad and empty.

There is an old man with a parrot in a one foot by one foot plexiglass box on BART. Also in the box: many, many dollar bills. Until he sat he was wearing the box like a backpack. Is this another institution like dog-cat-rat guy?

Today I randomly broke my no transfers edict and realized that the Fremont-Richmond line is less chilly because it travels outside in the sun instead of subterraneously like the Millbrae-Pittsburgh/Bay Point train. This is seriously Sophie's choice stuff: do I pick efficiency or warmth?
